The true spirit of the martial arts

If you think that "martial art'' means to have opponents and enemies and to be strong and defeat them, you are mistaken. The true spirit of the martial arts is to be one with the universe and have no enemies. The essence of the martial arts is the spirit of loving protection of all beings in the universe.

Shoshin Ryu Karate Jitsu: The name "True Spirit Martial Arts" comes from "Shoshin", the meanings of the word is "True Heart" or "Beginners Mind". Shoshin is a term used in Zen to describe the state of mind that a child goes into when lost in the wonderment of exploring something new totally entranced. Ryu means School or method. Karate means empty hand or China hand. Jitsu mean fighting method as compared with Do in Tae Kwan Do which means way. Jitsu is more concerned with function than with philosophy. We believe a warrior (a warrior can be many things) must have the True Spirit and True Heart to be successful in their battles.

Fook Yueng Chuan: Fook Yueng Chuan means Fook Yueng’s Boxing Method or Martial Art. Fook Yueng is a Chinese Gung Fu Master who studied over 160 methods of Kung Fu and distilled them into a new method. One of his famous students was the late Bruce Lee. The art is Smooth, Fast, and Effortless. FYC utilizes the efficient principles of blending, balance stealing, sticking, the balance, flexibility, break falls, and evasion keep kids and adults safe during every day life not just in a self defense situation.
